Dr. Amanda Stanec recently traveled to the Olympism in Action forum in Argentina. The invitation-only forum proceeded the World Youth Olympic Games and included athletes, IOC members, scholars and leaders in sport organizations. On display is an Olympic Values Education Program (OVEP) resource written by Dr. Stanec and an International team. "It was quite moving to see resources we created on display at this event," Dr. Stanec shared. MOVE + LIVE + LEARN PARTNERS WITH JJK WINNING IN LIFE & JJK FOUNDATION

There are no words to describe Move + Live + Learn's excitement to have partnered with living legend, Jackie Joyner-Kersee. Dr. Stanec's team led the development of the JJK Winning in Life youth physical activity programs and the JJK Winning in Life College Student-Athlete Development program. Move + Live + Learn is grateful for the opportunity to continue to support the greatest female athlete in the 20th century through program dissemination initiatives. DR. STANEC INVITED TO OLYMPISM IN ACTION FORUM

Dr. Amanda Stanec, founder of Move + Live + Learn, was recently invited to attend the inaugural Olympism in Action Forum hosted by the International Olympic Committee. Dr. Stanec is excited to travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina to attend the forum which will address challenging questions related to sport and society.

Included in this work are professional development workshops designed to meet teachers' specific needs.

Move + Live + Learn to Produce Resource for True Sport & Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport

Move + Live + Learn is honored to write a resource for early elementary Canadians on behalf of the collaboration between True Sport Canada and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport. This resource will teach the 7 True Sport principles to Canadian children through different forms of physical activity, including but not limited to: physical education classes, sport, and recreation. 

Move + Live + Learn Receives WBENC Certification

MOVE + LIVE + LEARN is now certified by the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). This certification affirms that MOVE + LIVE + LEARN is woman-owned, operated, and controlled. WBENC is one of the most widely known and respected certifications in the nation. Accepted by hundreds of corporations within the country and a number of federal, state, and local government agencies, WBENC certification is an important marketing tool for expanding a company's visibility among decision makers in corporate supply chain diversity and procurement organizations. 

Move + Live + Learn Designs Workshop For International Olympic Committee

Move + Live + Learn will lead the writing, design and activities for a global resource called the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP) Train the Trainers Workshop. This project included a guide for attendees of a 2.5 day training as well as the detailed workshop activities.  Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be certified to develop and deliver OVEP programs in their part of the world. Additionally, Move + Live + Learn will be part of the first workshop in Tokyo as part of Tokyo 2020’s Olympic Games Legacy.

Move + Live + Learn Teams Up with Westport Public Schools

Move Live Learn is honored to return to Westport Public Schools in Westport, CT this spring as a follow-up to professional development delivered there in January.  As Westport Public Schools shifts to a proficiency-based education system, Dr. Stanec and her team are eager to further support the excellent physical and health educators in Westport throughout this journey. 

Move + Live + Learn Supports Frankfurt International School

Move Live Learn is honored to announce its founder, Dr. Amanda Stanec, will travel to Frankfurt Germany to deliver two days of workshops at one of the top International schools in the world. Over these two days, Dr. Stanec will deliver a keynote speech to all faculty on teacher wellness, in addition to delivering several breakout session for parents, classroom teachers, and physical education teachers. 

Cedars-Sinai Calls on Move + Live + Learn to Expand Healthy Habits

Move Live Learn prides itself on repeat clients. As such, it is thrilled to announce it will once again collaborate with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and build upon their elementary-based healthy habits curriculum which Move Live Learn delivered only weeks ago.  Over the next several months, Move Live Learn and the Healthy Habits team will develop a middle school after-school program for youth in the Los Angeles  Unified School District (LAUSD).

MOVE + LIVE + LEARN to Develop Make the Class Classroom Materials for Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport

Make the Call is a values-based, ethical decision-making e-learning course targeted at high school athletes who are in the Train to Compete Stage of the Long-Term Athlete Development Model.  Dr. Amanda Stanec and her Move Live Learn team were named the successful proponents to develop classroom materials to support this course, all of which include: integrated learning, differentiated instruction, student-centered activities and best practices instructional models. The work is funded by the True Sport Foundation who received a one-time donation to support the development of this course and related materials.

MOVE + LIVE + LEARN TO SUPPORT HEALTHY HABITS PROGRAM AT CEDARS-SINAI MEDICAL CENTER

The Healthy Habits program, developed by Cedars-Sinai Medial Center, serves students in Los Angeles Public Schools. Dr. Amanda Stanec was recently hired to lead new curriculum development for 2nd and 3rd grade levels of the Healthy Habits program. She will travel to LA in February, 2016 to collaborate with professionals at Cedars-Sinai, as well as educators in the LA Public Schools.

ASOIF HIRES STANEC and MOVE + LIVE + LEARN

Dr. Amanda Stanec will travel to Lausanne, Switzerland in March, 2016 as part of research efforts funded by The Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF). During this time, Dr. Stanec will interview ASOIF development officers as well as tapped leaders in Summer Olympic Games Sport from five continents to determine best practices, and to provide practical solutions related to good sport governance.

MOVE + LIVE + LEARN HIRED TO DEVELOP “WRESTLE RIGHT” FOR UNITED WORLD WRESTLING

MOVE + LIVE + LEARN is the successful proponent to lead the development of Wrestle Right. This resource, which will serve sport and physical education sectors, is an International stage before age physical literacy enriched resource for children and youth ages 4-16.  The International Olympic Committee and Sport for Life are two partners (more to be determined).

STANEC RECIPIENT OF “DAN GABLE AMERICA NEEDS WRESTLING” AWARD

At the 2015 NCAA D1 Wrestling Championships in Saint Louis, MO Dr. Amanda Stanec was awarded the Dan Gable America Needs Wrestling award. This award, given by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, was awarded to Dr. Stanec for her research, presentations, and development ideas on how to increase female athletes' opportunities in wrestling and how wrestling can offset current injustices in sport given its accessibility. On hand to present her with the award was Mike Moyer, Executive Director of the NWCA (left) and Dan Gable (right).

STANEC TO SIT ON WOMEN IN WRESTLING FORUM AT NCAA D1 CHAMPIONSHIPS

Dr. Amanda Stanec is honored to be part of a forum on women in wrestling on 03/19/15 at the NCAA D1 wrestling championships in St Louis, MO. This event is hosted in conjunction by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and USA Wrestling.  Stanec was invited to the panel along with Kyra Barry, Adeline Gray, Lúcás Ó’Ceallacháin, and Tricia Saunders to share research she and Dr. Jennifer Bhalla conducted.  For more information, please read the NWHOF's press release.

Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation Selects Stanec

Dr. Amanda Stanec has been hired as Lead Writer for the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation’s Winning in Life Curriculum. Working closely with Joyner-Kersee, this K-12 initiative will be based on 13 principles inspired by the legendary Olympian.

The Winning in Life Curriculum will allow teachers and facilitators to support students’ personal responsibility around physical, emotional and social health. In an effort to reach as many students as possible, Stanec will develop a thorough model that provides access, utilization and implementation and authentic formative assessments to multi-disciplined stakeholders such as classroom and physical education teachers, sport coaches and camp / recreation / community leaders. Once created, this program will make overt connections to K-12 physical education, literacy and STEM content standards as students develop valuable life skills based on Joyner-Kersee's 13 Winning in Life principles.

 

Gender Equality in Wrestling

United World Wrestling Organization invites Move Live Learn Founder Dr. Amanda Stanec and consultant Dr. Jennifer Bhalla to present their findings on a research study which examines wrestling as a potential vehicle for upward social mobility among elite female wrestlers. This presentation will occur at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland as part of United World Wrestlings Super 8 campaign on January 14th, 2015.

The #PhysEd Awards have chosen Dr. Amanda Stanec as their top Twitter communicator for 2014. This is @MoveLiveLearn's second consecutive time receiving this award. Stanec Joins Project Parkway 2015-2016 Steering Committee

The steering committee consists of parents, teachers and staff who provide feedback to the school board and superintendent regarding the implementation of Parkway School District's strategic plan.

Amanda has collaborated with the University of Calgary Kinesiology Department for four-years now, and is always thrilled to return to their amazing campus and soak up all the Olympic history from 1988 as she works with highly motivated and impressive faculty and students.

Dr. Amanda Stanec has been invited back to present as part of the Brown in Balance Speaker Series at Washington University's George Warren Brown School of Social Work. The topic of this year's talk is, Finding Joy in Physical Activity as a Way to Control and Reduce Stress. The session is open to faculty, staff and students.

Portland, OR: SHAPE Conference

Amanda is proud to be the keynote speaker at the Oregon Shape conference. Her talk will center around physical literacy and how a quality physical education curriculum, and quality physical education programs, can support individuals’ physical literacy.

Hamilton, ON: Physical Literacy Summit

Amanda will present at the Ontario Physical Literacy Summit in Hamilton, Ontario. Her first session is titled: Nice is Not Enough: How to Foster a Task-Involved Motivational Climate in Order to Optimize Individuals’ Physical Literacy Development. While at the summit, Amanda will also participate in a discussion panel about mental wellness. Amanda’s final session is a two-part session for parents, physical educators, and community coaches titled: Age and developmentally appropriate activities to support children’s physical literacy development during the FUNdamentals Stage (ages 6-8/9) of LTAD.

Lock Haven, PA: NWCA Conference

Amanda is honored to present at the inaugural NWCA Leadership Academy for female wrestlers’ coaches at Lock Haven University in PA. on August 9th and 10th 2014. While in Pennsylvania., Amanda will share key advocacy rationale for why growing female wrestling programs in the NCAA supports efforts to reduce the achievement gap through sport. Amanda will also present findings from a research study that she conducted with co-researcher Dr. Jennifer Bhalla (@SportCanadian13) on perceptions of wrestlers (males and females) and coaches around female participation in a predominantly male sport.

St. Louis, MO: Parkway School District

Amanda will present at two workshops for the Parkway School District in St. Louis, MO. One session (August 8th) will be for elementary physical education teachers and the other session (August 11th) will be for middle school physical education teachers. Amanda is eager work with these competent and enthusiastic professionals as they gear up for the 2014-2015 academic year. Her children will attend schools in the Parkway District which makes these workshops that much more special.

Ft. Lauderdale, FL: NWCA Conference

Amanda travels to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. to present at the National Wrestling Coaching Association. If she doesn’t melt as a result of being in Florida in August, Amanda will co-present with her partner Jim Stanec: Advocating 101: How to Communicate Wrestling’s Importance in the 21st Century to School Administration and Community Members. Amanda will also co-present research findings in a session along with Dr. Jennifer Bhalla titled: Wrestling and Gender: Building a Climate Inclusive to All.

St. Louis: U.S. Bank Community Development Corporation

Amanda will lead a series of talks for the U.S. Bank Community Development Corporation. These talks will be centered around how to plan for health promoting lives. Detailed information and strategies will be shared around nutrition, physical activity, and healthy travel/vacations.

St. Louis, MO: Safe Connections

Amanda will speak about self-care to the amazing professionals who work at Safe Connections. Safe Connection’s vision is a world free of abuse and rape. Amanda will speak to these hard-working and dedicated professionals at their annual meetings at the Forest Park Visitor’s Center in St. Louis.

Edwardsville, IL: NWCA Coach Summit

Amanda is a guest panelist at the National Wrestling Coaching Association’s Coaching Summit in Edwardsville, IL. The topic of this session is on Ethics and Sport. Dr. Dan Gould, renown leader in sport psychology and youth sport, will be facilitating the panel.

London, ON: Community Workshop

Amanda will lead a three hour workshop on physical literacy to community members from the London, Ontario region including nurses, teachers, and parents. The aim of this workshop is to help community members who work with youth to fully understand what physical literacy is, and how it can be developed in youth. Best practices that aid the development of the whole child will be given and practical resources will be shared.

London, ON: OHSC Conference

Amanda’s heads to London, Ontario Canada to present a plenary sessions the Ontario Healthy Schools Coalition Conference. The title of her presentation is: Understanding Physical Literacy and Supporting its Development in a Fun and Meaningful Way.

St. Louis, MO: AAHPERD Convention

Amanda is thrilled to be accepted to speak at the 2014 AAHPERD (American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Receration, and Dance) Convention - right here, in her new hometown of St. Louis, MO. The 75-minute session is titled: Physical Literacy and Physical Education Curriculum: Programs with Purpose. Amanda is thrilled to share her experiences writing P-12 physical education curriculum with physical literacy as the foundation.

St. Louis, MO: U.S. Bank Community Development Corporation

Amanda will present to several corporate groups from the U.S. Bank Community Development Corporation. These talks are centered around how to live a health promoting life - at home, at work, and while traveling.

St. Louis, MO: Washington University Forum

Amanda will present to students from Washington University about how to have a safe and healthy spring break. Research on at-risk behaviors and avoiding at-risk behaviors will be presented as well as tips for eating healthy, making healthy choices, and exercising safely while traveling.

Clayton, MO: Parkway School District

Amanda will greet physical educators from the Parkway School District early in the new year. The topic of Amanda’s presentation is: Teaching Games for Understanding: It’s Good Pedagogy.

St. Louis, MO: Brown School of Social Work

Amanda will present to students, faculty and staff in the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University, St. Louis. The topic of her presentation is: Build “Strength” at Home. The focus of the presentation centers around ways in which to build physical strength away from a gym, and how this empowers us to overcome challenges that life throws our way. Amanda has really enjoyed meeting the incredible Wellness Coordinator in the Brown School of Social Work, and looks forward to collaborating with her on future projects.

Winnipeg, MB: CUPR Forum

Amanda will present at the Canadian University Professors and Researcher (CUPR) forum, at the Physical and Health Education (PHE) Canada National Conference, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. This presentation is titled: Lessons Learned: A Physical Education Teacher Educator Revisits P-12 Education. She will also co-present with Dr. Amanda Campbell (Bridgewater College, Virginia) as part of the regular schedule at the PHE Canada National Conference - also in Winnipeg. This presentation is titled: Interdisciplinary Education in Physical Education: So Many Possibilities! Amanda’s third presentation will be made with co-presenters Ms. Amber Muir (PHE Canada National Office) and Dr. Jennifer Bhalla (Pacific University, Oregon). This presentation includes the background on a project related to facilitating physical activity among newcomer (immigrant) youth. Research to practice will be shared on how to provide a culturally responsive setting in physical activity (physical education and sport). Finally, the outline and specifics of a Facilitator’s Guide as a Result of the We Belong! project will be shared.

Kirkwood, MO: YHA Sessions

Amanda is looking forward to presenting at the Kirkwood (MO.) Youth Hockey Association’s “Icebreakers Weekend”. Amanda will speak during several sessions on parenting and sport. Highlighted topics include: How to Foster a Healthy Environment Away from the Rink, as well as, Effective Communication Strategies Pre and Post Hockey Practices and Games. KYHA has recently been awarded an “American Development Model” association by USA Hockey! Congrats to KYHA on caring so deeply for their athletes and families.

St. Louis, MO: NASPE Standards Presentation

Physical Literacy is a key component of the new NASPE standards. This September 2013, Amanda meets with amazing physical education professionals from the Parkway School District in St. Louis, MO. Here, she will share pertinent information related to physical literacy, as well as its impact on curriculum development throughout Canada. Parkway School District is an outstanding one, and Amanda is looking forward to meeting some of its incredible educators as she serves as the external reviewer throughout their physical education evaluation process.

St. Louis, MO: MICDS Workshops

Amanda visits MICDS (Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School), a co-educational K-12 independent school in St. Louis. During this workshop, Amanda will present the Teaching Games for Understanding Model to Physical Educators. She’s excited to work with the teachers at MICDS, and their amazing PE Chair who is a wonderful role model for all in the profession.

Somerset, NJ: PE Workshops

Amanda travels to Rutgers Preparatory School, Franklin Township, NJ. to deliver a series of physical education workshops to the entire physical education staff. Amanda’s excited to work with the dynamic faculty at Rutgers Prep as they examine their current curriculum. Amanda will help faculty determine how to modify curriculum and practice in order to best meet the needs of 21st century learners.
